# Live tail

> Watch logs or metric points arrive in real time, filtered like a query.

**Live tail** in the app streams rows as Pulse receives them, before they're written to storage. Choose **Logs** or **Metrics**, set a filter (service, minimum severity, text, attributes, or a metric name) and watch. **Pause** stops the screen from moving while rows keep arriving.

If rows arrive faster than your browser can take them, Pulse skips some and shows **dropped N**. Nothing is lost: everything is in [Explore](/docs/explore-and-query-api/) a moment later.

Live tail is a WebSocket at `GET /api/v1/tail?signal=logs&q=<filter as JSON>`. It only accepts connections from the Pulse web app (signed-in browser sessions), not from API keys.
